about

Brand new old-time fiddle tunes newly released here from the legendary playing of Kerry Blech on fiddle, Allen Hart on banjo, and Sheila Blech Long on guitar. Kerry is now in health straits—proceeds from this album go directly to him.

---------------------
Kerry Blech has been a fixture in the old-time music scene for decades. His fiddling here, accompanied by Sheila Blech Long on rock solid guitar and Allen Hart's elegant banjo demonstrates his passion for and fidelity to the multitude of traditional fiddlers he has studied and known. We used to say that you could ask Kerry about an Ed Haley tune, and he'd tell you what Ed had had for breakfast that morning. His scholarship has been both deep and wide, and he has generously shared from his collections of rare recordings and photographs. From album notes to The Old-Time Herald to countless scholarly folklore articles, he has faithfully documented the history of tunes, players, and more. And you will find "as Kerry Blech writes" or "from the files of Kerry Blech" in lots of other pieces as well.

He has encouraged countless new players and helped even the experienced to learn from the older recordings, including his own extensive field work. He's been a champion of the obscure—bringing to light many brilliant unknown players and archaic, beautiful tunes.

This album also offers the banjo playing of Allen Hart, a legend in himself, who made exquisite banjos and plays here with impeccable rhythm and precision. He is now deceased, and for those who treasure his playing, this is an opportunity to hear banjo and fiddle at their finest.

This album offers 30 robust tunes and includes Kerry's usual excellent source notes. We have tunes from Lusk-Gribble-York, Garry Harrison, Joe and Odell Thompson, the Berea archivist Steve Green, Dock Boggs, and many more. Let's support Kerry as he has supported the old-time community!
